Not so long ago it seemed that we set up goal scoring chances just so we could miss many. Now? I wish I knew the real answer. For sure it’s not lack of desire and I don’t think that the absence of Santi is the only reason. Overall it seems fair to say that PSG out-Arsenaled Arsenal for much of this game. But there were signs, in particular the first 15 minutes of the second half that we still have the ability to make the opposition get into panic mode.

Possessing unpleasant memories of post interlull, early kick offs, MFU and in particular the carbuncle that masquerades as Maureenjoe, I can’t plead ignorance of the fact that none of these four seem productive for a top Gooner performance.
Indeed, I thought of making MFU my banker on “I know the score”. This, putting any team as a banker, invariably results in my losing points. I’ve used it several times recently for the spuds. Yesterday I chose Stoke!

All the anticipation, all the fears vanished. All that was left was the feeling that you’ve just kissed your sister.
Plaudits for both Hector and Nacho, both of whom made excellent tackles to prevent potential disasters, and also Granit and Le Coq, who put a very good barrier in front of Kos and Shkrodan, neither of whom were at their best. Fortunately Petr was alert and kept, almost, a clean sheet. We won’t talk about the penalty. I wonder how many penalties these days are scored down the middle? For sure it’s an increasing proportion.

2-0 down and 3-2 up; doo-dah, doo-dah! Not the first time we’ve done that in the CL , Belgium’s Standard Liege got an even faster start with 2 within five minutes, but this game was far more fun.
For the neutral, the first half was great with both sides playing well; for Gooner fans an “oh no, not again,” at 20 minutes followed by relief at half time and for Ludogorets fans, vice versa.

There’s really not too much that can be said of this game other than we were professional and the opposition were as poor as the referee. Reviewing Atkinson’s previous displays when reffing Arsenal and comparing them with his other matches, one is forced to the conclusion that he is totally biased against us. Admittedly he booked 4 of Blunderland’s minions versus two of ours, but it could easily have been 24. That we escaped serious injuries was the only redeeming feature.

An assured performance from what was effectively our second squad, several players advancing their claims for regular first team status. Plus a welcome re-appearance of Jenks who put in a very good stint.

We had about 70% possession; twice as many passes, less shots on target and no goals. Given Wednesday’s performance and those stats it just bears out that football is a strange game.

Strange game. We were out possessed and out passed and for much of the game the Bulgarians gave as much as they got. A minor problem was that they didn’t got Alexis, Theo, Mesut, Le Coq, Hector and Kieran, Koshkrodan, Santi, Ox and Oosp. Oosp was outstanding and in the first half, prevented some mistakes from resulting in goals. One in particular was ample justification for AW’s comment that we have two world class keepers.

Happy Birthday dear Mesut, Happy Birthday to you

Bogy side Swansea were allowed to give most Gooners near apoplexy as what should have been an easy win was turned into a real struggle to keep the 3 points so richly deserved.
Poor Granit has to take much of the responsibility following his giving the ball away to allow the Swans to reduce our 2-0 lead and then getting a very harsh red, albeit for a stupid foul, with 20 minutes to go. I go along with AW’s assessment that it should have been a dark yellow. Inexplicable decision from the ref.
